Daniel Johnson's 'farewell to Rexburg' recital features three art songs from six different cultures (Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia, France, and Great Britain) performed in the original languages. The program includes the premiere of Another Angel in the Midst of Heaven (Whirling Dervish No. 2) for unaccompanied cello, performed by Robyn Brown on the cello. The evening is also the premiere of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, a new song cycle for tenor accompanied by a mixed chamber ensemble including piccolo, flute, bass flute, Eb clarinet, Bb clarinet, Eb contralto clarinet, cello, and percussion (marimba, vibraphone, chimes, congas, and bass drum).
